The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts job growth in all areas of healthcare including careers in surgery and operating room staff. The surgical team includes an anesthesiologist, surgery or circulating nurse, surgical technologist and at least one surgeon. Surgery is lengthy and all individuals considering a career as part of the operating room staff should have stamina and be able to stand for long periods without a break. The educational requirements for surgical staff vary according to the position and may include the completion of an Associate’s Degree, a nursing program or medical school. Annual salaries for positions in the operating room vary according to position, but a surgical technologist will earn $30,000 to $45,000 per year and a surgeon can expect to earn more than $200,000 per year.
